THE ROAD TO LAPLAND BEGINS IN DRESDEN, GERMANY AT BESPOKED.
The Bespoked bike will have an Arctic Lapland summer color scheme using anodizing.
I’m using the natural base of colors in titanium anodizing to create the spectrum of colors in the landscape of summer in Lapland.
Titanium anodizing is an electrochemical process that varies the mass of the oxide layer that naturally occurs on the titanium base metal. By varying this mass using different voltages, a wide range of unique colors can be produced without the use of dyes or harsh brighteners, leaving the chemistry and structure of the substrate unchanged. The colors in this spectrum can be seen when light waves bounce off of the stabilized oxide layer, and the result is a color that will not fade, discolor or change as may occur with organic dyes and pigments.
Artic Lapland. I’m looking at an 1140km bikepacking route connecting some of the outer lines of the southern and central Lapland into 13-16 day odyssey. The route offers a wide selection of Lappish nature and culture all the way from Sweden to Russia with numerous wilderness shelters and campfire sites, above the Arctic Circle. Most of the route has great services and frequent restocking opportunities, but the most remote part of the route includes a 480 km section with no real services.
This route and the time of year I go is mediated by the herding of reindeer. The the reindeer silhouette created on the frame is done by using a vinyl masking to either mask the anodizing to leave a bare titanium silhouette , or a stencil to create a media blasted silhouette .
